Established in 1925, Sam's Friendly Service was considered the best shoeshine and newsstand in South Philadelphia. Salvatore Cilione could always be seen outside, greeting customers and passers by alike with the latest newspapers, magazines and hearty "hello." Sometimes he'd clip some blooms from the enormous rosebush that grew in the side yard for his beloved wife Chloe, who would also mind the store on Sam's break time. Together, they ran the little store for a number of decades and there was always a crowd on the corner.
In the spirit of Sam and Chloe, the family is reopening the shop as birch + banditry, offering an eclectic mix of items, accessories and gifts at the lowest prices around. Or grab some quick service items at the newsstand if you're in a hurry - coffee, flowers, and family-oriented goods.
